'Skipping girl'
This artwork was inspired by my sister. To me, it brings back the joys of childhood. In this sculpture, you can see she is imbalanced and therefore about to fall. Skipping Girl is symbolic of the fact that human beings fall but can always stand back up and triumph over adversity.

'Mountain Goat'
While trekking in Mount Abu, India, I chanced upon a lone mountain goat on the hillside. That image brought to mind the idea that through resolve we can achieve great heights. Upon further research, I found the significance and symbolism of mountain goats. They represent goals to be reached of newer and greater heights. The famous phrase, “the sky is the limit” is therefore most fitting here. The more knowledge and education gained on animal conservation, the closer we get to achieving our goal of saving the animal kingdom that make up such a crucial part of our Planet Earth. This image also conjures the idea that when animals are in their natural habitat, and undisturbed, they live peacefully in nature.

'Windswept'
In 2017, Cyclone Ockhi caused widespread destruction in the state of Odisha. This tree is representative of the destruction that nature suffered during the cyclone, but that even in the face of such adversity, nature alone can triumph, as is shown by the tree which is affected by the wind, but remains rooted to the ground. We now know that climate change gives rise to increased violent cyclones. Global warming has never been as worrisome as it is now, and therefore there is a direct need for environmental change without which, more such natural disasters may take place the world over.

Today, the greatest challenge we face is that of climate change. The increasing rate of global warming has had a devastating effect on the environment resulting in both droughts and flooding’s in different parts of the world. This, coupled with deforestation, has meant that nature may perhaps never truly recover. Bare is a depiction of a completely bare tree affected due to climate change. To save this Earth, and ourselves, we need to urgently ensure that we modify how we treat nature.

'Ivory trade'
Ivory trade is the greatest threat to the largest land mammals on Earth, the Elephant.
Humans have proved to be a profound threat to these mammals. The African elephant species is the worst hit with an estimated hundred elephants being killed daily by poachers who are seeking ivory and body parts. Deforestation due to an increased requirement of land for agriculture as well as housing has greatly affected the natural habitats of elephants. Combating poaching and monitoring illegal ivory trade are ways to save this mammal and have laws that protect wildlife parks.

'Quiver tree'
Aloe Dichotoma, commonly known as the Quiver tree occurs in rocky areas of South Africa. The San people in Africa use the hollowed branches of these trees to make quivers for their arrows. The people depicted on its branches are therefore symbolic of the threat that they cause. These trees are dying out due to land grabbing, chopping, overgrazing and mining. Climate change though still remains its main threat. Due to overconsumption and pollution, the Earth’s surface temperatures have soared increasing the chances of storms, droughts among other natural calamities which threatens the existence of this tree. To save nature, and ourselves, we need to urgently ensure that we modify how we treat nature.

'Underwater'
This artwork is a depiction of Hippopotamuss floating in a pond. Unregulated hunting for teeth, Hippo-human conflict, shrinking habitat, poaching for meat and skin are the reasons that these giant animals are vulnerable and dwindling in numbers. This artwork depicts human beings encroaching on their habitat and people advancing towards them for the want of their teeth, meat and skin. It is important for us to learn how to live in harmony with them, create protected spaces for them, to live peacefully and enforce laws that ban illegal poaching.

'Submerged'
This artwork is a depiction of the endangered Atlantic Halibut which lives at the bottom of the ocean, typically on sand, gravel, or clay. After decades of excessive overfishing, the population of the Atlantic Halibut is now less than 10% of what it was in the 1950s. Extreme measures are necessary for the survival of this fish which will otherwise soon disappear into extinction. Submerged attempts to show the fish in its natural habitat and the balance of nature when the fish are free from human intervention.

'Down'
Ducks are highly sociable birds and some ducks can even be domesticated. It is ironic that human beings use down feathers for their comfort, but the process of getting the feathers is very painful for the ducks. During this process, the ducks feathers are ripped out and often leave ducks with gapping wounds and many of them even paralysed with fear, die as a result of the procedure.
This artwork Down denotes how the people are sleeping peacefully while the duck is in fact down and saddened awaiting its fate. The practice of plucking feathers from live birds which has been deemed cruel by animal welfare groups, continues to be in practice to date. The only way to stop this cruel practice is by curbing consumption. If we as an audience don’t buy these products, the market for it dies and thereby these birds get saved from such cruelty.

'Death'
Vultures are important for our ecosystems. They can spot and clean rotting carcasses thereby helping the outbreak of diseases in the environment. This artwork depicts a vulture perched on a tree branch looking down for prey. Human beings are advancing towards it hastening its extinction. Indian vultures on the one hand have died out in bulk due to the drug Diclofenac, found in carcasses of cattle that vultures fed on. On the other hand, the African vultures are poached and used in traditional medicine and as meat.
Being a Parsi Zoroastrian myself, vultures play a vital role in our culture. According to tradition, our last rites are performed at the top of the tower of silence where vultures act as scavengers. It is one of the most environmentally friendly ways to dispose of a dead body and symbolically we’re being taken back by nature. Conservation measures are being taken today by tagging vultures to monitor their health and population. It is important that medicinal companies are made aware of the harm they can bring to these birds of prey. Educating and creating awareness among local population world over, can also go a long way in helping protect this species.
